The inspirational quotes that describe who I am

There are a lot of inspirational quotes out there. And, I like a lot of them. I read a few quotes this morning and got an idea. How about I introduce myself using some of the best quotes that reflect my beliefs, goals, personal development, and values? It would be interesting as I’ve never done this before.

Here we go. For those who don’t know me, please allow me to introduce myself.

“Speak in such a way that others love to listen to you. Listen in such a way that others love to speak to you.”

Anonymous

Listening skill is something that I have been working on for many years. It’s hard to be a truly good listener. You listen because you want to understand others, not because you want to respond. You also need to have a sharp focus on how the other person feels. Words might not describe everything she tries to communicate. Her body language can also give a clue.

“Forget It Enough to Get Over it, Remember it Enough so it Doesn’t Happen Again.”

Anonymous

We are all afraid of making mistakes. We all also know that we have to take risks sometimes. What holds us back to do what we want to or what we should do is the residual feeling of failure. This feeling could stay with us for months or years. As hard as it could be, we have to train ourselves not to forget the mistakes but to learn from them. Then, let them go.

“A river cuts through rock not because of its power, but because of its persistence.”

Jim Watkins

I always believe that people with persistence always win. We were born and raised differently. We are offered with different opportunities. So, fundamentally, we are not playing in an equal field. The factor that could set us apart is the never-give-up attitude. I experienced quite a number of failures in my life. But I never gave up. I will fight until the end.

“If your actions inspire others to dream more, learn more, do more and become more, you are a leader.”

John Quincy Adams

I am not there yet. Being a good leader is my goal. It’s difficult to become a truly selfless leader. The only way for me to achieve this goal is to keep practising with strong self-awareness.

“Class is knowing what to say, when to say it, and when to stop.”

Anonymous

Difficult to do isn’t it? For some reason, human has a nature to speak about themselves. It requires a great discipline to manage how and the way we listen and talk. When we disagree, there is an urge inside us that tries to push us to say something. When I was at my 30’s, “sharing my thoughts” was my thing regardless of situations. I then found out that a pure class is… know what to say, when to say it, and most importantly when to stop.

“Motivation is what gets you started. Habit is what keeps you going.”

Jim Ryan

I believe in creating habits. Motivation alone is never enough. In order to be good at something, you have to practice it over and over. That’s when habit comes in. My formula is when I am motivated to do something, I will force myself to keep doing it for 3 months. When it sticks, it becomes my new habit. If you don’t believe me, read this book — The Power of Habit.

“Bad situations in life are only temporary. If you are going through hell, keep going.”

Winston Churchill

Life is a roller coaster. Everyone has to go through an up and down cycle. Someone might prosper at young ages. Someone has to wait until 50s. When we are in the down cycle, it is important to understand that our time will come. Do not compare ourselves with others. We all have our time. This quote is dramatically encouraging. It tells me “I am not afraid of setback. I will go through it”.

“Nothing is particularly hard if you divide it into small jobs.”

Henry Ford

This is my secret to do everything. I divide a task into small pieces and finish all of them one at a time. When reading a book, it’s not about reading the whole book. It’s not even about reading one or two chapters. It’s about reading one line, one paragraph, which leads me to finish a chapter, 2 chapters, and the whole book. When you divide a big task into small tasks, the task itself doesn’t look daunting. And, you have a better chance to finish it and finish it well.

I want to finish this post with this quote. It has so much influence in my life.

“The idea is not to live forever, but to create something that will.”

Andy Warhol

These are the quotes I love. You should know me a little better now. What are your favourite quotes that reflect who you are?
